Travel iron carrier and pressing pad

My travel iron seems to take forever to cool down to transport home from sewing events.  This folding case holds my Black and Decker travel iron and when unfolded, makes a great pressing surface.  I used two layers of Insul-Brite between the red fabric and the white canvas.

Selvage chemo cap

During a sewing weekend with friends we made chemo caps for a friend that is fighting brain cancer.  This cap was meant to cheer her up with something to remind her of sewing and made with selvages from our projects this weekend.

Gold and green small quilt

This was another kit from Connecting Threads.  Travel for work has been crazy with little time for sewing so this small project fit the bill.  Not sure what I am going to do with it so will put it in the gift pile.  If I keep this up, I should be in good shape for Christmas this year.

Big pocket 3-D flower tote bag

Another kit from Connecting Threads.  This bag has shower curtain grommets for the bag strap and the flowers and leaves are made with fusible fleece sandwiched between two layers of fabric.  The flower is attached in the center and the leaves through sewn veins.

Blossom Bag

I have been working on completing some of the kits I own as a way of cleaning up my sewing room.  Amazing how patterns and fabric seem to multiply on their own.  This bag was a kit from Connecting Threads.  The front of the bag has a vinyl cover over the fabric and the back is plain fabric that was quilted with a layer of fusible fleece.  Not a large bag but might be a cute bag to enclose a gift.

Sleeve board recover

I have been wanting a sleeve board for awhile but the new ones I have found are metal and not very sturdy.  Wish I would have kept the one I had in the 70's when I did a lot of garment sewing.  This wooden sleeve board was found on eBay and came with a clapper.  The downside was the cover was very stained and I was worried that some of the stains might come through on my projects.  I took the cover off to clean it and the padding was stained as well.  Decided to start over fresh with wool batting and made an attractive cover.  I really like how it turned out.

Charity quilts #1,2, and 3

While sick with a cold last weekend, I made the first charity quilts of 2012.  All three quilts were from the disappearing nine-patch pattern.  I am hoping to turn these in at the August quilt guild meeting.
